Rodrigo Toscano is a poet and dialogist based in New Orleans. He is the author of twelve books of poetry. His newest book is WHITMAN.CANNONBALL.PUEBLA (Omnidawn Books, 2025, a National Poetry Series Finalist). Other recent books are The Cut Point (Counterpath, 2023), and The Charm & The Dread (Fence Books, 2022). His previous books include In Range, Explosion Rocks Springfield, Deck of Deeds, Collapsible Poetics Theater (a National Poetry Series selection), To Leveling Swerve, Platform, Partisans, and The Disparities. His poetry has appeared in over 20 anthologies, including Best American Poetry (2023, 2004), Best American Experimental Poetry (BAX), Voices Without Borders, Diasporic Avant Gardes, Imagined Theatres, In the Criminal’s Cabinet, Earth Bound, Invisible Strings (a Taylor Swift Anthology, Penguin, 2024) Latino Poetry Anthology (Library of America, 2024). Toscano has received a New York State Fellowship in Poetry. He won the Edwin Markham 2019 prize for poetry. The Charm & The Dread was a 2023 honorable mention for the International Latino Books Awards. His works have appeared in Poetry Magazine, Boston Review, Harvard Advocate, Bennington Review, Yale Review, Waxwing, Lana Turner, Fence, Tupelo, Oversound, The Georgia Review, The Kenyon Review, Annulet, Diagram and many others. His poetry has been translated into French, Dutch, Italian, German, Portuguese, Norwegian, Mandarin, Spanish, and Catalan. His poetics plays have been performed at the Disney Redcat Theater and Ontological-Hysteric Poet’s Theater Festival. His radio pieces have aired on WPIX FM, KAOS Public Radio, WNYU, and PS.1 Radio. Toscano is on the board of directors for the New Orleans Poetry Festival and Fence Magazine, and co-runs The Splice Reading Series.
